Entries in affair (3)Rick Sanchez (CNN): The Act of Journalism Spotted - NYE EditionWhile many were excited about upcoming NYE festivities, Rich Sanchez put on a show that would have made hard-nosed reporters of the past extremely proud. While it is the norm today to allow politicians to give non-answers or fail to give a response at all, CNN's Sanchez continually grilled Senator Ensign on his ethics violation and his affair. After seeing a duly elected member of Congress to refuse answer the questions numerous times, it exposes what we know to be true: it's politics as usual on the Hill.

Did the MSM try to "justify" the actions of McNair's mistress?
I am always the first one to lay the bulk of the fault SOLELY at the feet of the married person when it comes to assigning blame during an affair. Ummm, because he/she is the person who made the vow to God and their spouse. Period. So yeah, Steve McNair was to blame for having an affair, the girl, to a much lesser extent. Now as far as the murders, that blame lays solely at the feet of Sahel Kazemi. Is it just me or did or it seem like the media's underlying theme was "this famous brutish black man manipulated this young NON-BLACK woman and showered her with gifts/trips and caused her to kill them both"? Some could use the excuse that they were waiting for the entire story to come out, however, early on, it was kinda clear what happened. Now we know for sure: McNair and Kazemi had been dating for 5 months and McNair recently started pulling away from the relationship by standing up Kazemi after failing to show up for a Vegas trip. Kazemi complained to friends that she felt her life was over and bought a gun. She shot him four times while he slept, then committed suicide. Many reports on this incident excluded any substantial reference or information about McNair's wife, Mechelle. It seems as if there was no need to rush to support or come to the aid of Mechelle as a widow and a mother to 4 fatherless children, but it was an absolute necessity to "rescue" Kazemi's image from any negative portrayal. In fact, there were repeated mentions about the her relationship with McNair, the house and condo McNair purchased with her, and the fact that the McNairs had their house on the market. All seeming to push the theme that McNair had did everything in the world to convince Kazemi that he was leaving his wife for her. What was left out however was that McNair and his wife were looking to purchase another home and that McNair seems to have started dating ANOTHER woman outside of his marriage. Not saying that Kazemi should be completely vilified, again, McNair is damn near completely responsible for the affair. Kazemi, on the other hand, DECIDED to murder McNair and take her own life. I'm sure the meme would be different, let's say for instance if the football player, his wife, and his kids were white. While the story would still be huge, if the story involved John Elway (God forbid) and his wife, I can guarantee there would be an immense outpouring of love and concern for Mrs. Elway and her kids, and probably less "justifying" of the non-white "other" woman who took the life of sports legend before ending her own. Then again, maybe it's just me.

John Edwards: " I am NOT the father!"
I love men, I really do...they're so interesting. Only a man would tell the half-truth about an affair, which happened before and most likely during his Presidential campaign (and probably produced a child), in front of the national media with a straight face! To John Edwards' credit, that tactic would work in a "normal" situation. Quite often, when there is absolutely no doubt that man has cheated, he will confess just enough since he feels backed into a corner and forced to admit his infidelity. And frankly, he wants to move past the situation as quickly as possible. Partial admission usually works with the wife, who is normally devastated, and wants move past the embarrassment and avoid as much pain as possible. The fact that Elizabeth Edwards has cancer adds an OMG! factor to the story, but the truth is she may have some type of understanding with her husband as far as other women are concerned, so this situation really is not surprising. The surprising part is that both John and Elizabeth went forward with John's quest for the Presidency. Shocked. Dismayed. Incredulous. I can't shake the image of John Edwards being the nominee, instead of Barack Obama, and this story coming to light now. The Democratic Party would have imploded, and John McCain would have most likely been handed the Presidency. While some people want to take the stand that the affair was a private matter, it certainly is not when you are in a public office or running for one. When a person decides they want a highly visible public office, they open their life up to public scrutiny. Interestingly, it was the National Enquirer that kept pushing this meme while the mainstream media accepted Edwards dismissive denial and did not pursue the story. Which reminds me of the MSM dismissing the possible effect of President Clinton's past dalliances and ignoring the possibility of more recent affairs because they accepted Hillary Clinton campaign stance that those situations were non-issues. This is a trying time for the Edwards family and the state of his political future is unclear. Although, some politicians have revived successful careers, there are a few issues that could hamper an Edwards' return, including his "I am not the father" Maury Povich moment and $120,000+ paid to Rielle Hunter during the primaries. It is not hard to make the leap that Edwards could easily lie about paternity since the mother has stated that she will not take a paternity test. Andrew Young, an Edwards' campaign staffer, has claimed that he is the child's father, which seems ludicrous and over the top. The money to pay for Hunter's and Young's residencies is currently being scrutinized not to mention the outright lie by Edwards that Hunter was paid before the affair. If your story can be examined by the MSM and the entire country, tell the whole truth. Telling only half the truth has destroyed Edwards' credibility and makes him look like an idiot. And now for more MSM foolishness: Watch as the political pundits feverishly try to develop a tenuous connection between Obama and the Edwards affair and drone on and on about how this will damage Obama while not ignoring the more logical connection to John McCain who left his sick wife for a young heiress.
