I'm Sorry, Please Take Me Back...
![]() |
Dear Blog,
Have you missed me? Do you still love me...like you used to? Will you take me back? I'm so sorry...
Alas, I've been so preoccupied....
Do you remember that last class I could never complete? Yes, I turned into one of those people who get to the end of their degree program and is like: "F*CK IT! I'M BURNED OUT!" Well, I found the strength to pull myself over the finish line and will be able to throw my cap into the air next month (a la Mary Tyler Moore). Yeah, no more school for me! Well, yes I know that I said the same thing when I finished undergrad, but during that graduation ceremony, I saw the masters candidates in their black robes and thought...I want wear one of those robes. However, short of a direct order from JC himself, Tonja will become "projectile-vomitting" ill at the suggestion of attending another set of degree required lectures.
And then there was the Twitter. You know the "Google" of social networking sites. It is so simple. No nudges or any annoying in-your-face app requests. Just clean, simple, IM'ing perfected. You can just chat with and follow people or causes you are interested in: there is @THE_REAL_SHAQ...he's funny. And then there's @palmpre to keep feeding my Pre obsession.
But truthfully, oh blog, twitter allows me to comment on current happenings without having to go into damn "full blown blog post" mode. Granted it's only 140 characters at a time, but I have a system: get rid of superfluous adjectives, acronyms whenever possible, cute short monikers, the list goes on and on. And you know what, I have a convenient place gathering place to receive links from OTHER PEOPLE's blogs. So I traipse around the web, reading this, skimming that, and maybe leaving a comment or two. Much less work than transcribing my verbose, "Joe Biden"-like rambling.
Then there were my job-looking vacations in Chicago. Ahhh, remember Chicago? Oh, sorry that's right, you were just a twinkle in my brain at the time. What? I know I was supposed to look at D.C. and NY too. As much as I stan the Obamas, I am not really feeling D.C. like that, besides, maybe I can run into them in Chicago (I got super-excited when I drove by their house. SOUTHSIDE!). Ok, I still sometimes have my "Carrie living in Manhattan" fantasy, but frankly, imma little scared of living in NY. It's SOOOOO BIG! Which reminds, hey @djtoneytone, what's up? What Atlanta? I'm from the area, dammit, and I'm tired of it. Family is good for a few visits throughout the year...not every five minutes. The one thing I can say, if you are black and looking for a any type of party, the "A" is most def the place to be.
But anyhoo, Chicago is a extraordinary city that reminds me of my other city-love: Paris- the Seine, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Louvre, the food, the wine...ahhh, I remember it like it was yesterday. And Chicago has the same vibe. What? Ok, I am talking about downtown Chicago, like I was saying I got the same vibe early one spring morning walking from Union Station going to work. Which caused me quickly realize I would have to ditch the suburbs for River North. Those type of cities almost kinda have their own souls.
And it was the drinking. I can hold my own because of my military background and being from a family of partiers, but a few friends in the CHI taking drinking to a whole new level. Didn't realize people could drink ALL DAY LONG...
Oh yeah, I've had writer's block.
