Virgos having a bad week or so?

A couple of my friends think I am too heavily invested in all things astrology. Maybe I am...

During the last couple of months before the Presidential election, my emotions would swing from being absolutely sure that Barack Obama would win to being fearful of the Bradley effect, voter suppression, and election day malfunctions. Knowing that McCain was a Virgo and often comparing the events in the lives of same-signed persons, I thought about how my "astrological" life would compare to McCain.

Do McCain and I share some Virgo tendencies? Maybe a few, I have a horrible temper and I am prone to gut reactions. While I had a pretty neutral view of him before his nomination, I throughly disliked McCain as a candidate and despised the way he campaigned. Funny thing, McCain is hilarious and likable when he's being himself as he did at the Al Smith dinner. Ok, so back to my ruminating about McCain's (upcoming at the time) devastating loss. So I comforted myself by saying that he is only one Virgo and yeah, he will suffer a historic defeat, but it may not be that bad, maybe he really does not want to be President...I bought it at the time, it was more about me than McCain.

Overwhelming, near-catastrophic, crushing was McCain's loss to Obama.

Who me? I was elated, crying tears of joy, and screaming repeatedly at the top of my lungs (I'll go into my 3 day hysterically joyful crying binge in another post). Yeah, it was just McCain...he is OK and Virgos are going to have a phenomenal month!

While at the end of the month, I may feel like November was incredible, the last week have been comically horrendous for me (outside of the Obama victory). Want some details? Ummm, you'll just have to take my word for it. With all the flurry of unwanted activity in my life, I have tried to pull back and see the forest despite the trees. Is this a time of extreme clarity or is it just a result of poor decisions?

For years, actually since I was in my teens, I've always felt the pull towards creative people and creativity in general. For years, I would just think or talk about it and never put much effort. I am proud to say that this past year, I did take a huge step and create my website and blog. However, there is much more that I must accomplish. Recently, I noticed some signs of slipping back into contentment of things as they are and not as they could be. The events of the past week or so have really jolted me into focusing on my plans for the future. Is that why I had the week that will live in infamy?

Or was it just a result of bad choices? I am about to say something I have never said before, I DON'T CARE IF THE RECENT ACTIVITY IS A RESULT OF BAD CHOICES ON MY PART! Probably only Virgos can understand how hard it is to say that. We are very analytical of ourselves.

Personally, I think the past week has really because of the former, a week of clarity. So I'll take it heart.

Now on to enjoying the upcoming Obama Presidency.....

BEST. OBAMA. INTERVIEW.  EVER.

If I were a lesbian, I would have to holla at Rachel Maddow. Intellectually, she is my girl. Although, she's a bit of a concern troll, "THE EARLY VOTE IS LAGGING!!!", it's OK. I love her anyway. Rachel's interview with my-boyfriend-if-he-wasn't-married Barack Obama allows the Presidential candidate to give us what we've been missing for 8 years: a first class intellect. From Afghanistan, to infrastructure, to a working majority of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, Obama shines as the standard-bearer of 21st century America. (Ummm, ok, hitting on Rachel and Obama? I need a date!)

The impressive Obama Infomercial:

Stay The F*ck In Line!

Photobucket

So many of us are burned out and exhausted with the longest and most expensive Presidential election season ever. We are almost at the finish line.

ALL THIS IS FOR NOTHING IF YOU DO NOT GET IN LINE AND VOTE.

Call everyone you know, repeatedly, and make sure they are voting and help with the GOTV if you can. To find your polling place, check out voteforchange.com or your Secretary of State/Board of Elections office.

Today over at Dailykos, Jeff Lieber spoke the truth:

STAY THE FUCK IN LINE!

To the "youth vote"... THEY think you are lazy and undisciplined and distractable.
Prove them wrong.
Stay. The. Fuck. In. Line.

To the "African-American vote"... THEY think you are lazy and undisciplined and easy to intimidate.
Prove them wrong.
Stay. The. Fuck. In. Line.

To the "Jewish vote"... THEY think you are stupid and old and terrified of middle names.
Prove them wrong.
Stay. The. Fuck. In. Line.

To the "Latino vote"... THEY think you are racist and too busy picking their lettuce for $50 and hour.
Prove them wrong.
Stay. The. Fuck. In. Line.

To the "Hillary vote"... THEY think you can't tell a uterus from a policy position.
Prove them wrong.
Stay. The. Fuck. In. Line.

To the "Gay vote"... many of THEM wish THEY were you, but that's another rant.
Stay the fuck in line and don't settle for a provisional ballot unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

Provisional ballots WILL NOT be counted on election night and therefore will not be part of the "winner" narrative and since you did stay the fuck in line lets get your vote the fuck counted now.
WE have the right and stamina to finish what we started and WE can hear Lady McBeth whispering in our ears, "But screw your courage to the sticking-place, and we'll not fail." (which is lofty, not-real-American edujewmicated, Shakespeare for STAY THE FUCK IN LINE!)

Email to this to your friends, families, and co-workers.

Here is Obama's closing argument:

"Stomp the Yard" Routine is Scary, but Praying & Speaking in Tongues to cardboard Bush is OK!

Photobucket

McCain and Palin have spent the last few days fueling hate by insinuating that Obama is friends with a domestic terrorist. Their desperate attempt to reverse the course of the Presidential race has incited their supporters to shout "Terrorists!", "Kill Him", and other racial inflammatory comments about Obama during these rallies. After receiving some negative feedback, the right has jumped on a youtube video to continually frighten white people about having a black President.

The video shows a group of middle school black males showing how positively Obama has affected their life. During the video, the young men shout that one will become a doctor because of Obama, and others go on to list their occupational aspirations which have resulted from Obama's campaign. The boys also recite information about Obama health care plan and speak about (black) families taking responsibilities for their children. Many black people know that the routines are based on "step" routines (similar to athletic drill/dance routines) performed by black sororities and fraternities and featured in such films as School Daze, Drumline, and Stomp the Yard. However, after viewing some conservative websit0es, it is easier and more interesting for them to see these young men as militant.

But a group of young, mostly white kids (some with military-looking face paint), praying to a cardboard cut out of Bush and speaking in tongues...that is OK! The old double standard. The same reason why Obama has to be so careful in how he appears...regardless of the fact that McCain can come off as a raging lunatic (thanks SNL), Obama can never be too angry otherwise he would automatically become the leader of the Black Panthers.

Which reminds me to another double standard perpetrated by some in the media. I watched most of Anderson360 on CNN last night, and they spent much of the program SHOWING long segments of McCain and Palin hurling attacks at Obama (which was the intent of the McCain camp). They did not spend anytime (or very little) SHOWING or discussing Obama's Keating response, until it was panel time. At that point, they lumped McCain and Obama together and said "they" were being negative, as to soften McCain role (or at least equate it to Obama's) in the mudslinging. They DID NOT spend lots of time explaining McCain role in the Keating 5 and certainly did not touch on the G. Gordon Libby aspect, Alaskan Independence Party, or Troopergate. Even when the story is detrimental, the McCain camp still gets the enormous benefit of television coverage and an explanation of their POV even though they initiated the negative campaigning.

Another day, another uproar, I can't wait for this election to be over and to see Obama become President. (I better look out for the wingnuts...I'm sure they think my last comment was a result of "indoctrination.")

The site of young black men yelling is soooo scary!!!! (I guess it is too much to ask viewers to LISTEN to what the young men are saying!)

But face paint, speaking in tongues, and praying to a cardboard Bush: NO PROBLEM!

WHAT THE MEDIA WON'T SAY ABOUT THE VP DEBATE

Photobucket

...it was the Katie Couric interview WITHOUT the follow-up questions.

After seeing Sarah Palin repeatedly stumble, freeze up, and give nonsensical answers to Katie Couric, Palin's only real measure for success in the VP debate was to go on stage and not have a nervous breakdown or spontaneously combust. She did not, so for many McBush fans, she won. But stop and think about it, what was different from the CBS interviews and the VP debate? Sarah still regurgitated talking points, spoke with a weird jumbled version of English (she LOVES the word "also"), altogether avoided the questions, and trailed off into some very odd directions with her responses.

According to the rules, to which both campaigns agreed, the VP debate would be less confrontational format which did not really allow follow up. That being said, Gwen Ifill still could have found some way to press for clarity or more information (although the recent controversy around her upcoming book may have caused her to be overly cautious). Biden was restricted from constantly challenging Palin directly for fear of being labeled as sexist. The result was that Palin's non-answers were allowed to stand and she miraculously again became ready to assume the office of the Presidency for some Republicans and conservatives.

While some in the MSM were grateful that Katie Couric did their job for them, the media continues to ignore an elephant in the room. Palin does not seem to have the intellectual curiosity or intellectual capability to grasp the multitude and magnitude of issues that are part and parcel of the Presidency. Can't name the newspapers she's read, can't name any Supreme Court cases besides Roe v. Wade, spouts talking point without a clear idea of what they mean...it is really outrageous. And now after supposedly "passing a threshold" in the debate, many pundits have said that Palin erased the Couric interviews and that Palin's intellect is no longer an issue.

On Morning Joe, Mika tried to raise the issue, but she was shut down by Joe who immediately said that Palin has as much experience as Obama. Mika attempted to clarify the issue by pointing to her brain and saying, "This is NOT about experience". But Joe did not want to it admit that because some Republicans and conservatives don't want to admit one simple truth. Obama, as described by a conservative Charles Krauthammer, "has got both a first-class intellect and a first-class temperament". There is no way that Palin could have that foreign policy debate against John McCain and succeed as Obama did last week. No one (who is unbaised and fair) doubts that Obama completely understand complex domestic and foreign policy issues, can accept and understand advice from others, and has the ability formulate his own opinions.

Sarah Palin, you are no Barack Obama.

That being said, Joe Biden hit it out of the park (as supported by CBS and CNN polls) and made it clear that he and Obama are a powerful team.
